Cleaning Chemicals

From multi-surface and multi-purpose cleaners to disinfectants and polishes, our range of cleaning supplies boasts a variety of products to suit most cleaning and sanitary requirements.

The use of any cleaning chemicals must be done with a degree of care. Excessive exposure to chemicals could result in skin irritation and other issues; as such we provide our customers with COSHH safety data sheets for any cleaning chemical within our range, including information on the hazards of chemical substances used.

What is COSHH?

COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health)  is the law that establishes the obligation for employers to control substances hazardous to health. Employers can prevent or reduce workers' exposure to hazardous substances by:

  • Identifying the health hazards
  • Determining how to prevent harm to health ( risk assessment)
  • Reducing health harm through control measures
  • Guaranteeing that all control measures are in good working order
  • Informing, instructing and training employees and others
  • Planning for emergencies

If you require any safety data sheets for cleaning chemicals within our range, please inquire with the sales team.

Tips to clean effectively in your business

To prevent diseases from spreading and to keep the cleaning standards in your business, it is advisable to create a cleaning schedule. You should identify what must be cleaned daily, several times a day, or less frequently. Your schedule should include:

  • The facility, the area or piece of equipment that needs to be cleaned or disinfected
  • How and how often this should be done

You should include instructions specifying cleaning procedures, cleaning products and how to use them according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Advice for cleaners

Cleaners should be careful when handling cleaning chemicals to prevent health issues. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) warns about the following risks:

  • Hands should not be kept wet for long periods during the day as this can irritate the skin and cause dermatitis.
  • Some cleaning products trigger skin allergies and asthma.
  • The use of some cleaning products can cause skin burns and eye damage.

Here are some tips for preventing exposure to harmful substances:

  • Use good work techniques and wear PPE like protective gloves, aprons, and eye protection.
  • Make sure your workplace is well ventilated
  • Store cleaning chemicals safely
  • Wash your hands properly, dry them well and use hand creams often.

Eco-Friendly Cleaning Chemicals and ISO 14001

ISO 14001 suggests that companies should use the necessary provisions to manage their environmental responsibilities. This standard specifies the requirements for an environmental management system that businesses, regardless of size, type and nature, can use to improve their environmental performance.

An environmental management system is intended to achieve the following outcomes:

  • Enhancement of the environmental performance of the company
  • Fulfilment of compliance obligations
  • Achievement of environmental objectives

These outcomes should be consistent with the company’s environmental policy.

We ensure that our customers have a range of environmentally friendly cleaning chemicals (and other products) to choose from to meet these standards.
